Islamorada Sea Horse Deep Sea Fishing Report
More Sailfish, Kingfish, some Tunas, and a few Mahis are what’s happening in the Islamorada area. We are still catching these fish on the edge of the reef with live bait. Most of the best catches have been when the weather was the worst. It has been tough to stand up but the fish keep biting when the waves are big and the water is stirred up. On calm days we have to get more creative to make the fish cooperate. One tactic is to chum with live pilchards. The pilchards attract predators near the boat where they eventually can find our baits. We are using spinning gear to catch these fish and it is allot of fun!
There have also been some Cobias found along the edge of the reef and in Hawks channel. Most of the Cobias have been caught near the surface cruising with stingrays. Cobias often eat lures and live bait; however if you really want to get their attention toss a small live grunt in front of them. It is amazing how aggressive
